Tiffin University Men’s Wrestling started its inaugural season in 2009-2010 as a club sport. In 2010-2011, they began the transition into GLIAC play with Doug Jesse at the helm. However, at the time, many GLIAC schools were just starting wrestling. During the 2010-2011 season, the team wrestled to a 10-10-1 record and ended the season tenth out of thirteen teams in the Super Region II event. Fast forward four years later where the program has been successful ever since. Joey Simcoe, my advisor and the current men’s head coach, has taken the program from the bottom to the top in five short years. During his tenure the Dragons have qualified for four nationals and in 2013 had their first ever NCAA All-American. This past season was historic, as the program took major strides when three wrestlers finished 4th at the NCAA Division II National Championships, the highest finish ever for Tiffin University wrestling. Overall, the team finished 9th out of 48 teams, the best finish of any GLIAC team. The future looks bright as men’s wrestling is only losing six seniors and returning a big part of their team’s success from this past season.
